How Scanning Works

On-Device Processing

Cleanuply analyzes media metadata locally on your iPhone and builds review suggestions without sending files externally.

  • The app reads metadata such as size, date, media subtype, and deterministic signatures.
  • Scanning is local to your device and does not require an account.
  • You can rescan any time to refresh recommendations with current protection rules.

What Stays on Your Device

No Uploads

Your photos, videos, and scan results stay on-device. Cleanuply does not upload your library content.

  • No raw media files are uploaded by Cleanuply.
  • No external server is required for core cleanup flows.
  • Saved preferences and cleanup history are stored locally.

How Deletions Work

Recently Deleted Safety

When you confirm deletion, iOS Photos handles the operation and places assets into Recently Deleted.

  • Cleanuply never auto-deletes anything.
  • Deletion only happens after explicit confirmation.
  • Items move to Recently Deleted where they remain recoverable for roughly 30 days.

How to Recover Deleted Items

30-Day Recovery Window

Open Photos, go to Albums, then Recently Deleted to recover items during Apple's retention period.

  • Open Photos and go to Albums.
  • Tap Recently Deleted and unlock the folder.
  • Select items and choose Recover.

Why Items Are Suggested

Explainable Suggestions

Rules use size, confidence, and category-specific logic. Suggestions are not random or opaque.

  • Category rules prioritize high-confidence opportunities first.
  • Protection rules can exclude favorites, hidden, recent, and long videos.
  • Suggestions are meant to accelerate review, not replace your judgment.

Limits of Recommendations

Review Before Delete

Confidence can still be imperfect for visually similar moments. Manual review is always expected.

  • Duplicate and burst suggestions may still include meaningful shots.
  • Lighting changes and framing differences can affect confidence.
  • Always inspect selected items before deleting.
